Consequently, UV light plays a vital role in their well-being, spatial orientation, and various natural behaviors.Why UV-A Light Is ImportantUV-A light falls within the visible spectrum for birds and supports natural color perception. Plumage colors appear significantly more intense to other birds of the same species, which can facilitate social interactions, mate recognition, and courtship behavior.UV-A also plays a role in foraging. Many seeds, fruits, and berries reflect UV light, making them easier to spot. Appropriate lighting can therefore support natural behavior and contribute to overall activity levels.The Importance of UV-B LightUV-B radiation enables the body to produce its own Vitamin D3. This vitamin is essential for the absorption and utilization of calcium from food. Adequate levels support the development and maintenance of strong bones as well as normal egg formation.Parrot species such as African Greys are particularly prone to calcium deficiency if Vitamin D3 levels are insufficient. AvianSun 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent 26W supplies your bird with important UVA and UVB rays.Because the feathers reflect the UV-light and this reflection of the feathering plays a major role in the mating ceremony, the breeding with UV-light should be much more successful. The UV perception is also very important during ingestion. Ripe fruit and berries appear more colorful: with UV-light red appears redder and green appears greener. The appetite of an unwilling eater can be stimulated through the UVA-light. Also in case of feather-plucking / feather-picking works the UV-light wonders. Vitamin D3 is for a healthy bone development indispensable. By most birds, the uropygial gland collects the previtamin D3 from the blood circulation and concentrates it in the gland secretions, which will be exposed under the UVB-light during the feather spreading while cleaning. By the next cleaning, the birds capture the UV-irradiated material and the secretions attain as previtamin in its body.
