We are pleased to present to you, as a small token of appreciation, our very first collector pin, which represents the extraordinary yellow-breasted macaw.Each pin from our collection tells a special story, and the yellow-breasted macaw is particularly unique in this regard. Why? Well, it embodies the incomparable story of Petro, the first parrot of our founder, Michael Wagner. When Michael was just 10 years old, he became the proud owner of Petro, a lively yellow-breasted macaw who ignited his passion for parrots.Petro was more than just a pet - he was a loyal companion and the inspiration behind Michael's lifelong love for parrots. Petro's colorful plumage, his intelligent gaze, and his vivacious character prompted Michael to constantly design new toys for him and to turn his passion into a profession. Thus, the Parrot Paradise Wagner was born, a home for a variety of lovingly designed parrot toys, nutritious parrot food, and comfortable parrot homes.It is thanks to Petro that we can share our passion with you today. In the 1970s, in a modest yet warmly run apartment in Duisburg, a very special friendship developed between a person and a bird. Kuki, Grandpa Josef's budgerigar, was not just a pet but a true family member. Born before Michael came into the world, Kuki was already a fixed part of the household when Michael took his first steps.Kuki's home was a small birdcage in the kitchen, whose door was always left open – a symbol of the freedom and trust that Grandpa Josef bestowed upon him. However, Kuki's favorite spot was not a perch or a toy inside the cage, but the shoulder of his human friend, Grandpa Josef. While Grandpa Josef sat at the breakfast table reading the morning newspaper, Kuki was always there, skillfully balancing on his shoulder and occasionally sharing a piece of breakfast bread or the soft yolk of a boiled egg. Grandma Liesbeth did not like this at all and always scolded.The communication between Kuki and Grandpa Josef was remarkable. Kuki had an extraordinary talent for mimicking sounds and was considered a skilled 'speaker,' picking up the words and melodies of his human family and reproducing them with astonishing clarity. These interactions sparked in Michael a deep fascination and love for birds that would shape his entire life ahead.The story of Kuki, set in a time when people knew little about proper bird care, teaches us much today about the emotional bonds that can form between humans and animals. We know today that budgerigars, being very social creatures, should ideally be kept in pairs or groups to meet their need for companionship. However, back then, in the 70s, it was not unusual for birds to live alone, especially when they received as much attention and love as Kuki did from Grandpa Josef.This touching story of Kuki inspired the creation of a limited edition collectible pin Homage to Kuki. This pin serves as a reminder of the inseparable friendship and joy that Kuki brought into the Wagner family's life. It also symbolizes the beginning of an era of awareness regarding the needs of our feathered friends, which would steadily evolve in the following decades.This pin honors not only a small bird with a big heart but also the values of care and respect that we should extend to all living beings. Here you can find our story: With the exclusive pins featuring our Parrotshop logo, we tell fascinating tales from our Parrotshop universe.At the age of 16, Michael participated in a student exchange program and received a gift from his host family that was to change his life - a baby African Grey Parrot named Naddy. While Petro and his partner Pepitta chirped happily in their aviary, Naddy became Michael's new constant companion.Naddy was not just any parrot. She was a true virtuoso of sounds, being able to perfectly imitate all the noises of Atari and Commodore computers. This ability, along with her incredible intelligence, inspired Michael to develop an entirely new line of complex toys specifically designed to meet the needs of intelligent parrots like Naddy.The second pin from our pin series is meant to tell Naddy's contribution to the history of Parrotshop. This pin also serves as a symbol of innovation and the relentless drive to create ever better products for our feathered friends. When Naddy moved in with Michael, there was only a rope, a mirror, and a swing for parrots available in pet stores.Colorful toys for engagement did not exist back then.
